MBA CPM 2014-16

Placed as Quantity Surveyor at Laing O'Rourke

Meet Rajat Goel, who got placed with Laing O'Rourke, Dubai after he did his post-graduation in Construction Project Management (CPM). He shares his journey from being a B.Tech civil graduate to how he got placed.

My aspirations
I had always wanted to be a civil engineer as this is one of the core and oldest branches of engineering. Since we’re a growing economy, there are a lot of projects that need civil engineers. However, I soon realized that if I want a fast rising and well-paying job, then I need to study further and gain managerial skills to complement my technical skills.

Why I chose RICS SBE
I had to find the right place which would help me to further my career. I read about RICS SBE in the Hindustan Times and then I also searched it on google. There, I read  what a well-respected organization this is, and all the advantages I would have if I did a specialized MBA from RICS SBE. I always wanted to be a part of the core management team in my job role, and I knew my aspirations would become a reality if I did my MBA in CPM from this institution.

My learning experience
It is really a superb learning platform for students aspiring to make a career in the real estate industry. It is during my internship that I realized how well respected the faculty is by the industry not only in India, but also abroad. They really put in their wholehearted effort in preparing us for our future. We get world class education right here in India without having to pay through the nose to be educated abroad.

Learning from my internship
The internship was also a unique learning experience in itself.  It was an eye opener for me to know which company plays what role in the industry. It also helped me to decide which way I wanted to orient my career. My job role as in intern was in Cost Management Consultancy (CMC) and this spiked my interest in Quantity Surveying, although I did CPM.

My Placement
The rigorous pre-placement process toughens us up and prepares us to withstand the pressure which is a given during final interviews. I was very impressed to see that all the top level companies of this sector were there on the campus during placements. I had applied to Godrej, TATA housing, Turner Townsend, Al Naboodah and Laing O’Rourke. I weighed all my options and decided to work in quantity surveying with Laing O’Rourke, Dubai. I have big plans for the future, but I’ll talk about them only once I’ve achieved them.

I don’t want to put down a generic MBA but if you really want to make it big in life then you have to do a specialized MBA as that will ensure that you’ll have a job that keeps you always in demand.
