
MBA in Construction Economics and Quantity Surveying is a unique program that prepares students to become construction economists and quantity surveyors—a very crucial subset of built environment professionals. The Quantity Surveyor, also known as Construction Economist in some locations, is an integral part of entire project life cycle as a professional advisor on cost and commercial matters.
Our program is a rich mix of content that is both technical and managerial in nature. Students gain knowledge and understanding of procurement, commercial management and financial management of construction projects and programs. They are prepared to understand the process, technology and people issues involved in achieving project success. Students are taught to work on all types of projects ranging from commercial offices, residential, hotel, hospital, and institutional buildings, industrial buildings, roads, highways, bridges, and infrastructure.
Graduates from the program take up roles that include advisers to estimate and monitor construction costs, from the feasibility stage of a project through to the completion of the construction program. After completion of construction they may be involved with asset management, tax depreciation schedules, replacement cost estimation for insurance purposes and, if necessary, in dispute avoidance and resolution.
Students are imparted crucial competencies in the areas of Cost Planning, Estimating, Measurements, Specifications, Cost Analysis, Cost-in-use Studies and Value Management. With skills and practical knowledge of Cost Management they are crucial to achieve cost efficiencies. In addition to new projects, quantity surveyors also use their skills in refurbishment of old buildings, alterations to existing buildings and insurance replacement estimates. Both via employment and self-employment route quantity surveyors are needed by all types of organizations involved in the delivery of the built environment.
