A Digital Built Environment Modelling Challenge organized by RICS SBE welcomed students of architecture, civil engineering and MBA Construction Project ManagementPM. Through this challenge, students got an opportunity to showcase their talent and promote the idea of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in the student community, using AUTODESK Revit software.
Students could participate individually in the competition or with groups of maximum of three members. The challenge was to design an open air shopping center (Strip Mall) based out of an urban city with given dimensions considering factors like FAR, ground coverage and set-back, solar passive architecture and sustainable concepts.
The specific design deliverables included concept brief in 500 words, design with the software extension (eg: file.rvt), 3-D views, energy analysis and daylighting of the buildingss, rendered images of floor plans, site plan and elevations. And finally, a compilation of all the above in a presentation supported by walkthrough video.
Prof. Anil Sawhney, Associate Dean, School of Construction, contributed in decision making of the design specification and evaluation process. The following students were declared as the winners:
1st place - Rafay Ahmed & Pranav Suresh
2nd place - Mithil Haldankar
3rd place - Rosy Rani
The top 3 finalists won cash rewards and rest of the teams got gift hampers, goodies, momentos and certificates.
On being asked the USP of their design, the winning team said that “We had designed our plan in complete compliance to the climatic conditions of the specified location, energy analysis, water demand, electricity consumption and daylight analysis for the building and followed the building bye laws for the design of the structure. It was designed to win.”
