An architect with 20 years of diverse experience and interests in mainstream architecture, conservation, project management, lighting, energy efficiency, facility management, training, research and writing. Deepak, other than starting Xebec as a design practice and leading it to evolve into a leading integrated services company in the building industry in India, has over his career served on a range of government and industry committees, published and edited a respected professional journal, written for mainstream magazines and newspapers, advised various corporates on building materials and construction processes and consulted with NGOs in the field tradition and arts.
Q. Could you please tell us about the kind of real estate professional services offered by your firm?
Xebec is a multidisciplinary services group offering a wide range of consulting and execution solutions in the building industry under three verticals.
The scope of services offered includes project management, design management, restoration and rehabilitation, conservation of historical properties and research in methods and materials. Over the years Xebec has delivered some of the most challenging and prestigious projects on sea-sides and lakes; deserts and mountain tops; modern cities and historic settlements etc.
Design and Build
Xebec has executed under design and builds method more Rs.600 million worth of commercial and retail interior projects for the corporate, banking, insurance, retail sector across India.
Xebec Property Management team manages about a million sq.ft. space across some 400 locations in some 65 cities over some 6 states in North India. Services offered include general repairs and maintenance, look and feel audits, energy and safety audits, and relocation, renovations and disposals.
At the last count, Xebec has delivered projects across more than 180 cities across the country; and has ongoing facility management operations across over 65 cities across much of North India.

Q. How do you expect the demand of such services to be in the coming years? Which of these areas do you think have high career growth potential for young talent?
Architects and engineers with qualifications or experience in design management; project management or construction execution
Supervisors with experience in civil structure, MEP services, interior supervision, safety etc.
Accounts, finance, stores and logistic professional with construction or maintenance works exposure.
Facility supervisors, electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, masons etc.
Other support staff
We see increasing demand for each of the above areas in coming years. There is already a shortage of trained manpower, and in coming days we expect this to become more acute. Career growth for people with right attitude and skills will remain high since the country has no choice but to invest in building and infrastructure sector.
Q. Any advice that you would like to give prospective students looking for a career in real estate & construction sector
Like most other professions, in the real estate and construction sector too, students must have passion for whatever they do. Plus technical skills, love for outdoors; discipline combined with positive attitude; good communication skills and presentation will ensure them a fulfilling and successful career. A career in real estate can be especially rewarding since those involved in the industry have a chance to not only see things take shape, but influence change and also contribute to the development of the nation.
