Construction and design management, BIM, facilities management were some of the key issues of the lecture given by Dr. Valerian Miranda on 8 January 2016.
Dr. Miranda is the Director of CRS Center for Leadership, Management and Innovation in the Design and Construction Industries at Texas A&M University and also holds the Thomas A. Bullock Endowed Chair in Leadership and Innovation in the College of Architecture. research in sustainable design process, innovation, environmentally responsible design, architectural computing, built environment managementand energy optimization are chief areas of interest.
Expanding on the topic of his lecture, “Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Management of the Built Environment”, in a detailed presentation, Dr. Miranda spoke to the School of Construction Students, especially final year students of MBA CPM & MBA CEQS regarding (BIM). Prof. Miranda discussed the growing use of BIM in the built environment sector and how the adaptation of BIM has evolved over the years. He quoted the example of the world famous Dome of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, where a prototype model of the dome was prepared way back in 16th Century by Michelangelo based on the architectural designs, which helped people replicate it as it is even after the demise of Michelangelo. Building Information Modelling (BIM) he explained is the future of construction and design.
The students were enthusiastic to know about certain practises in the sector that are prevalent internationally and also about the importance of facilities management. An animated question answer session with Dr. Miranda followed the lecture.
