RICS SBE, Amity University along with Northumbria University, UK jointly organized Building Information Modelling (BIM) workshop on 20 September, 2018.
This workshop was organised with a view to help initiate the industry driven academic research and consultancy opportunities. It also focused on the best practices, challenges and opportunities central to the adoption and implementation of BIM in the design, planning and execution stages of the construction projects.
The benefits achieved through adoption of one of the most remarkable innovation, BIM, in Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector is well noticed and has been acknowledged globally. This workshop brought some of the most eminent speakers from industry and academia together to discuss about organized Building Information Modelling (BIM) in detail.

The proceedings of the workshop brought out that the adoption of BIM in Indian market is a gradual process and the industry and academia need to work together to improve the status of BIM implementation in India.
Northumbria University showcased BIM academy and their ongoing/completed projects. Academicians from Northumbria University, Newcastle Prof. Bimal Kumar and Prof. Richard Watson, provided useful insights and information on Level 2 BIM as implemented in the UK construction industry.
The challenges and the opportunities faced by AEC industry with regards to BIM implementation were also discussed in detail. Mr. Nirmalya Chatterjee, AVP & Global Head (Construction Technology), Tata Projects, TATA Group Company spoke about practicality of BIM Usage and importance of relevant education. Mr. Ankur Mathur, Founder & CEO Sanrachna: BIM & Virtual Building Consultants & Mr. Sudhish Sharma, Managing Director ThinkBIM Technical Services Pvt. Ltd, .shared their journey about BIM implementation on AEC projects in India.
All in all, everyone agreed that BIM can immensely help to elevate the construction sector in India to the next level. The task remains with the industry and academia to work collaboratively to build capacity to adopt, implement and support BIM implementation.
