Subhendu Datta shares how RICS SBE has proved to be a catalyst in his success.

Subhendu was born and grew up in Mumbai. From an early age, Subhendu was fond of watching Megastructures on Nat Geo and always dreamt of being a part of building them. He went to Smt. Chandibai h. Mansukhani College where he was bestowed with 'The Most Outstanding Student' Award. Taking a step forward to realize his dreams, he joined the 160 years old renowned, the University of Mumbai to pursue Civil Engineering and his hard work & dedication drove him to be the University Gold Medalist. He secured placement with Elex India, a Swiss-based EPC Company where he worked as a Structural Design Engineer for a year and successfully provided design consultancy for several domestic & international projects.
Designing though essential, is a small part of the construction process. In order to get a holistic view of managing the whole construction project, Subhendu joined RICS SBE in 2016 to pursue MBA in Construction Project Management and was awarded a RICS Scholarship to cover a portion of his tuition fee. He also bagged the opportunity to intern with India’s most reputed Project Management Consultancy – Tata Consulting Engineers Ltd. where he was exposed to all aspects of project management & worked on making 3D models (BIM) and 4D simulations for monitoring the project more sufficiently. He has also been exemplary in academic performance & topped his batch with a CGPA of 9.8 and received Merit Scholarship from Amity University. He has been an active participant in all co-curricular activities and was the President of the School’s Debating Society and Chief Editor of Construction Times, the official newsletter of School of Construction. He has also won several National Level Debate, quiz, poster presentation & group discussion competitions bringing several laurels to RICS SBE.
To further realize his dreams, Subhendu is joining Shapoorji Pallonji Co. Ltd., a 150 years old construction conglomerate which has built several mega-structures, in the Project Management department. He is also an Associate member of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) and is poised to gain MRICS chartered qualification in due course of time.
On being asked what advice he would give to future aspirants, Subhendu says, “RICSSBE is the catalyst for excellence in your career and provides a plethora of opportunities, and you need to be confident of all the basics learnt here to grab those. Be patient and look forward to the right time, and you will bag your dream job!”
